Induction
Early Completion Option (ECO)

Description

Application Process

Senate Bill 57 was designed to allow eligible individuals who are experienced and exceptional the opportunity to complete the Induction program at an accelerated pace.  Early Completion Option (ECO) participants have the opportunity to complete the Induction program in one year.  This option is available to exceptional candidates who meet the eligibility criteria listed below and demonstrate extraordinary knowledge, skills, abilities, and competencies required of all participating teachers who complete the full-length program.  All candidates are notified of the ECO option at the time of enrollment in the program. ECO is equally rigorous as the full-length program, although shorter in length (1-Year).
  • All candidates will be informed of the ECO criteria at the information and advisement meetings
  • Candidates who believe they are eligible for the ECO will complete and submit the application by the specified deadline
  • The application includes the items listed in the graphic below

Eligibility

ECO Application Materials

To be eligible for early completion, participating teachers must:
  • Hold a Preliminary Multiple, Single Subject or Education Specialist Credential
  • Provide evidence of two or more years of successful full-time teaching experience as the teacher of record in a teaching assignment that matches the Preliminary or Level I credential (EXPERIENCED)
    • Two or more years of successful teaching experience must be under the participating teacher’s preliminary credential.
  • Provide evidence of exceptional practice during prior teaching experience (EXCEPTIONAL)
    • Two final administrator evaluations from the prior two consecutive years showing exceptional performance
  • Executive Order Credential Holders:
Teachers with a preliminary credential that specifies that they must complete either one or both cycles of the Teacher Preparation Assessment (TPA) or pass the Reading Instruction Competence Assessment (RICA) in addition to induction, are expected to make significant progress in completing these requirements during the two year process of induction. Until the candidate submits proof to the Induction Coordinator that all credential renewal requirements have been successfully met, the program cannot submit the recommendation for the professional clear credential. Because of the additional time and work requirements necessary for completion of the TPA, teachers whose credential specifies that they must complete one or both cycles of that assessment will not be eligible for the Early Completion Option (ECO) one year program.

Picture

If a participating ECO candidate is not successfully progressing on pace for early completion of the program or if the teacher fails to demonstrate skills and abilities on a level expected of and consistent with an early completion candidate, adjustments will be made as deemed necessary and appropriate by Program Coordinators.  ECO status is provisional and can be revoked at any time.
