Induction Program
Picture

overview

The LACOE Induction Program is a job-embedded, state-approved, induction program for newly credentialed teachers.  The LACOE Induction Program offers the support of a trained mentor as teachers go through an individualized induction program to clear their preliminary education specialist, single, and/or multiple subjects teaching credential. Teachers work individually with a mentor through a series of experiences designed to grow the teachers' practices toward mastery of the California Standards of the Teaching Profession. Evidence of this collaboration and reflection is collected and archived in an electronic portfolio using the Canvas Learning Management System.

Program Requirements

  • Meet weekly with an assigned Induction Mentor
  • Meet twice a year with Site Administrator and Mentor at triad meetings
  • Co-Assess on the Continuum of Teacher Practice with assigned Mentor
  • Design and implement an Individual Learning Plan (ILP) with Induction Mentor and Administrator within 60 days of being hired.
  • Focus on one California Standard for the Teaching Credential (CSTP) per Module, completing a mini-inquiry
  • Actively participate in two Teacher Learning Communities (TLCs)
  • Complete three professional development experiences related to the ILP
  • Submit "Evidence of Teacher Practice" in the form of program tools collaboratively written with assigned Mentor in online Canvas course

Goals

The Los Angeles County Office of Education’s  Induction Program will support a candidate’s development and growth through a robust mentoring system including the following elements:
  • Dedicated time for the creation and evaluation of the candidate’s Individual Learning Plan (ILP), with guidance from their mentor in providing support.  The ILP will reflect the candidate’s teaching assignment, school goals, professional interest, and induction program coursework.
  • Candidate competency for the Clear Credential Recommendation will be based on progress towards mastery of the California Standards for the Teaching Profession (CSTPs) consistent with the ILP goals; review of observed and documented evidence; and verification that the candidate has satisfactorily completed all activities and requirements.

Mandatory attendance

  • Advisement meeting
  • Weekly meetings with mentor
  • Two Teacher Learning Communities (TLCs)
  • Three (3) professional development events consistent with the ILP

Assessment - evidence of Application

Candidates will be evaluated by program staff upon completion of each module as evidenced by:
  • Submission of collaborative tools and professional development reflections
  • Participation in weekly mentor meetings, TLCs, and candidate surveys
  • Mentor completed progress surveys

*Transcripts for work completed through the LACOE Induction Program will be provided once all fees and program requirements are verified.
